FAC Soundtracker 2+ Web is a native browser recreation of the original FAC Soundtracker software for MSX computers (1990/1991). It reproduces the classic editor UI without relying on MSX emulation.

The 2+ Web edition keeps the original 1:1 interface, including period localization and key shortcuts (MSX GRAPH maps to Alt / Option), and adds web-oriented extras:

  • Mouse-friendly grid and clickable softkeys
  • Drag & drop `.MUS`, disk images, and archives (`.ZIP` / `.LZH` / `.PMA`)
  • WAV import into ADPCM memory
  • MIDI keyboard support (replaces the Philips NMS-1160 music keyboard)
  • System audio input (replaces Music Module mic/line)
  • All five FAC Music Disks and four Sample Disks bundled

TouchDesigner MSX

  • MSX
  • Graphics
TouchDesigner is a node-based visual programming platform widely used for real-time generative graphics, interactive installations, projection mapping, and live visual experiences. Get inspired by the many examples on YouTube.

This experiment explores how TouchDesigner could also function as a visual prototyping environment for MSX and retro-computing graphics algorithms.

Different input sources can be used — images, video, webcam streams, music/MIDI, or scripts that generate procedural motion such as fluid, lava, or ocean-like patterns. The resulting visuals can then be processed through custom encoders that reproduce the graphical constraints of MSX screens, allowing you to preview in real time how the content could appear on actual MSX hardware.

By combining TouchDesigner with openMSX, the workflow can extend beyond visual prototyping. Both environments can be controlled from an AI-assisted development environment, making it possible to generate, convert, port, and test visual content rapidly across the modern real-time pipeline and the emulated MSX system.

The result is a bridge between contemporary generative media tools and retro-computing constraints: a fast, visual way to experiment with algorithms before translating them into native MSX implementations.

snAIk is a simple Snake-inspired arcade game for MSX1, built end-to-end with AI.

The game itself is compact. Its main purpose is to demonstrate what an AI-oriented MSX development stack can produce.

Tools, IDE setup, and the overall approach are documented in the MSX-AI-Dev-INIT GitHub repo. You can use it as a starting point for your own MSX-related AI experiments.

Play snAIk directly in the browser via WebMSX, made possible by File-Hunter.

AY-3-8910 to CV

  • Eurorack

Converting PSG sound-chip register data into Eurorack CV signals preserves the original tuning and frequency modulation—details that are often lost in conventional MIDI conversion. This project demonstrates how the same sound can be exactly recreated on modern (modular or semi-modular) synthesizers using control-voltage (CV).

Hardware/software exploration of converting AY-3-8910 (PSG) register data to Eurorack control voltages. The goal is to drive modular synths from classic chip-tune pitch and modulation data while keeping original tuning and frequency-modulation behaviour intact.
A SoundCloud sketch demonstrates how the chiptune sound can be exactly recreated using Aleste game music material as source.
